I am a studio artist in Ann Arbor, Michigan currently working in functional ceramics. I earned my BFA in ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1993, with minors in painting and printmaking. I also studied art and poetry in the south of France at the LaCoste School of Art and ceramics and drawing in the MFA program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I moved to Detroit in 1994 when I was awarded a position as artist-in-residence at Pewabic Pottery. At Pewabic, I taught ceramics and worked as master potter and, following that, head of their vessel fabrication department. I also taught ceramics at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit.
I have exhibited my ceramics and mixed media work in solo and group shows around the U.S., including the Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana, The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, Pewabic Pottery, Detroit Artists Market, Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester, Michigan, Ann Arbor Art Center, and the Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan. In 2012, I was awarded the Editor’s Choice Blue Ribbon Award at the Henry Ford Museum’s Maker Faire Detroit. I sell the majority of my work online through my Etsy shop, www.etsy.com/shop/NicolePangasCeramics, as well as at Pewabic Pottery in Detroit, and Don Drumm Studios & Gallery in Akron, Ohio.
